Not every article is going to be a hard hitting piece of journalism. Sometimes, you just want to know about something random that you can’t find anywhere else. With that in mind, today we offer a list of anime scenes that involve characters riding a Ferris wheel.
It is a stupid idea for an article, with subject matter that is likely far too obscure to matter, but hopefully there is some sicko out there with a niche fetish who will feel satiated. This one’s for you, you crazy diamond, you.
We’ve only just scratched the surface, and we’ll be periodically adding more scenes when we remember that this list even existed. Feel free to comment with your favourites, or even your least favourites if you have them for some reason.
And, I guess, there’s a spoiler warning in effect. Better safe than sorry, right?
The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, REALLY Love You
Season 1, episode 5

Rentaro takes Nano to an amusement park for their first date, determined to show her that there is meaning to even the simple things in life. She determines most of the activities to be illogical, up until he takes her on a Ferris wheel — which she unfortunately finds terrifying, instead. The pair quietly hold hands, while Rentaro surely wonders why he didn’t check if she was afraid of heights beforehand.
365 Days to the Wedding
Season 1, episode 1

In an attempt to create believable memories for their fake marriage, Honjoji convinces coworker Ohara to join her in a ride on a Ferris wheel. There, she presents him with a pair of wedding rings, and asks him how he would propose. As per usual, Ohara struggles to get the proper words out, failing to complete the task. Awks as, bro.
Akudama Drive
Season 1, episode 6

A bloody fistfight rages on between Brawler (who rather likes to brawl) and the Execution Division Master (who is hoping to see Mr. Brawler executed). The pair fling each other from place to place, before crashing into an abandoned amusement park. Whilst obviously, they do not ride the Ferris wheel together, they briefly scuffle in a fallen gondola — so it counts for the purposes of this article.
Beastars
Season 3, episode 31

To celebrate her lupine boyfriend Legoshi’s birthday, the dwarf rabbit Haru takes him on a date at a carnival to share a range of heartfelt experiences. At its conclusion, they ride the Ferris wheel (in keeping with the nature of this piece). It’s a lovely view, but hampered significantly by the bars in the middle of the carriage meant to keep carnivores and herbivores apart from one another. The threat of a grisly murder does tend to kill the mood, after all.
Buddy Daddies
Season 1, Episode 10

When hitmen Rei and Kazuki resolve to return their adopted daughter Miri to her mother, they take her out for one last day of fun together. The outing concludes with an emotional ride in a Ferris wheel as the assassins realise that they can never escape their past. It’s a touching moment, even when bloodthirsty killers are involved.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure
Season 2, episode 45

Kakyoin begins to experience strange nightmares where he is in a Ferris wheel at an abandoned amusement park. Before long, he is assaulted by an enemy Stand, without being able to use his own Stand to defend himself. Polnareff joins him in one such dream, happening upon some delicious snacks that he describes as “convenient and lucky”.
Josee, the Tiger and the Fish
Movie

Tsuneo Suzukawa is a good-natured college student who lands a job looking after the incredibly standoffish young lady, Josee. Confined to a wheelchair, she has a longing to see the world beyond her house, and after some initial tension, she begins to enjoy her time with Tsuneo as he offers her new experiences. One such outing includes a ride on the Ferris wheel, much to her delight (and to his motion sickness).
Sakamoto Days
Season 1, episode 5

Following an intense skirmish between the former hitman Sakamoto and his would-be rival Boiled, the two spill out across an amusement park to go crash landing into a ferris wheel car. Knowing he’s been bested, Boiled calmly lights up a cigarette before passing out, while Sakamoto watches on in silence. It’s not necessarily romantic, unless you’re into this kind of thing.
Spy x Family
Code: White (movie)

Fearful that her parents are on the verge of divorce, plucky esper Anya convinces her mother and father to share a romantic ride on the Ferris wheel. There, Yor confronts her husband’s presumed infidelity, only to learn that it had been a misunderstanding all along. Loid takes Yor’s hand and swears to honour their wedding vows, embarrassing her so much she socks him in the face and sends him falling out of the pod.
